On November 20, 2024, the Corpus team visited the Deaf club in Mataro (Associació de Persones Sordes del Maresme a Mataró). The club, founded in 1979, has a long history and many active members. With so many activities, the team decided it was very appropriate to do the Corpus recordings there.
The database has few couples of young people registered compared to other age groups up until now. However, the Associació de Persones Sordes del Maresme a Mataró has a large number of young members. We took the opportunity to record couples of people according to their age range: a young couple, a middle-aged couple, and an elderly couple. Interestingly, although the young couple had attended the same school, they signed very differently.
The recordings lasted the whole day. In the morning, we recorded the young couple, at noon the middle-aged couple, and in the afternoon the elderly couple. Overall, the team’s experience was very positive and interesting. We really enjoyed the recording process and felt very comfortable at the association.
