Centre de Persones Sordes del Maresme a Mataró

Hello everyone. The Centre for Deaf People of Maresme in Mataró (CPSMM), also known as the Club of Deaf People of Mataró, was founded in January 1979. Although the number may vary depending on the year, there are usually around forty affiliated members.

One of the main objectives of the club is to organize accessible activities for all members, such as talks with Catalan Sign Language interpretation. This approach allows us to provide several types of information to the members. For example, some time ago, a hearing psychologist gave a talk at the association with a Sign Language interpreter.

Cultural outings to art museums are also organized, such as the Dalí, Picasso, or Miró museums, with interpreters as to ensure access to culture for the deaf members. Another notable outing was the visit to the Maritime Museum of Barcelona, where we learned about very old ships, also with an interpreter. These types of activities are carried out with tour guides and interpreters altogether to learn about the history of different places. In general, the outings take place in the Catalan provinces of Barcelona, Tarragona, Lleida, and Girona.

Additionally, guided visits have been organized to places such as Reus, which was a very rewarding and enriching experience, or to the Cava factory, where we learned about the production process of this product.

The association also offers courses of Catalan Sign Language, designed for hearing people from various professional fields, such as teachers of Deaf children, speech therapists, nurses, receptionists in the healthcare field, and workers from the Generalitat, the Catalan government. These courses aim to facilitate communication between Deaf people and the workers who assist the public, for example, when a Deaf person needs to carry out administrative procedures with the Generalitat service workers.

In general, this summarizes most of what we do in the association. Thank you very much!
